What is OCD?
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, or OCD, is one of the anxiety disorders that has a lifetime prevalence rate of 2-3% in India, which means that around every 1 in 25 individuals have OCD. It is a debilitating psychiatric condition which is fairly common and can immensely impact a person’s day-to-day activities as well as social life. A person suffering from OCD has recurring, unwanted, intrusive thoughts and ideas which are also termed as obsessions. These intrusive thoughts are accompanied by compulsions which are repetitive behaviour and actions through which the individual can pander their thoughts. Some examples of compulsive behaviour are hand washing, cleaning, organising and checking on things.

Ms. Kaajal Gupta, from Bengaluru, India, was diagnosed with OCD at the young age of 13. In this podcast, she talks about the initial years of her diagnosis and treatment. She mentions the role of therapy in her life and how it helped her manage intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviour.
The pandemic has been difficult for everyone. Kaajal, also tells the listener in this podcast that due to OCD, there were many other challenges for her during the COVID-19 pandemic. With the help of the right treatment at the right time, Kaajal has been able to manage her disorder well even during such difficult times. can now focus on her education as well as upcoming opportunities.
Currently, Ms. Kaajal Gupta focuses on her education. During this struggle with OCD, Ms. Kaajal Gupta also felt the need of assisting other individuals with OCD. She, therefore, developed an app called “ My OCD Fighter: Liberate”. This mobile app is available on the Google Play Store and will soon be available on iOS store as well.
