Mental Health in India is unfortunately still a taboo topic which most people are not very comfortable talking about. Most people are not open about what they are going through emotionally whereas others openly ridicule the same, adding to the individuals’ stress. Mental Health Statistics in India also throw light on the same with the most astonishing being; In 2017, 197·3 million people had mental disorders in India, including 45·7 million with depressive disorders and 44·9 million with anxiety disorders. Find this research here.

Even with such high statistics, the awareness of mental health in India is bare minimum. In order to combat this, MHT invited Ms Shivani Thapliyal who is a mental health disorder survivor herself and also the author of End of Mental Stigma, to come and share her story for the world to know. We touched upon her journey before and after her diagnosis, spoke about mental health awareness in India, mental health importance and also how she has been working towards spreading acceptance in the community.
