Alcohol Addiction

As per Merriam Webster, Addiction can be defined as ‘compulsive, chronic, physiological or psychological need for a habit-forming substance, behaviour, or activity having harmful physical, psychological, or social effects and typically causing well-defined symptoms (such as anxiety, irritability, tremors, or nausea) upon withdrawal or abstinence’.

Alcohol addiction refers to compulsive behaviours that aim towards consuming excessive alcohol accompanied by difficulties in controlling these impulses. An alcohol addict needs to satisfy these impulses on an immediate basis and not think about the would-be consequences of his/her actions.
