My experience with Transactional Analysis in Therapy | Ramitha Ramesh | Podcast | Therapy for Thoughts

What is Transactional Analysis?

Transactional Analysis is a type of psycho-therapeutic approach which was developed by a psychiatrist by the name Dr. Eric Berne in the late 1950s. It is referred to as a part of modern psychology and is used for promoting personal growth and change. Dr. Berne developed this approach as he was inspired by personality theories by Sigmund Freud.

Transaction Analysis (TA) addresses an individual’s interactions and communications in therapy which is then used to establish and reinforce the idea that the individual is capable of reaching their full potential in different spheres of life.

TA has a theory of personality that follows an ego state model – which follows the idea that all of us act from 3 ego states mainly – adult, parent and child. The idea is that all our beliefs and patterns are formed in our early childhood, and we just replay them throughout our life even when they can be harmful to us. It is about finding the roots of these patterns and breaking off from these cycles of patterns for self-development and change.
