This Autism Day, we at MHT decided to take a cue from the technological advancements in our field from the recent past and collate a list with some of the research-backed applications available on Android and iOS to help parents understand & work with the spectrum.
- Autism Parenting Magazine

- Endless Reader
This app introduces “sight words”, the most commonly used words in daily vocabulary. Kids need to recognize these words by sight in order to achieve reading fluency. Recognizing sight words is advantageous for beginning readers because many of these words have unusual spelling, cannot be sounded out using phonics knowledge, and often cannot be represented using pictures.
- LetMeTalk
Some children and adults on the spectrum are completely nonverbal. LetMeTalk enables these individuals to line up images in a meaningful way to read this row of images as a sentence. To line up images is known as AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication). The image database of LetMeTalk contains more than 9,000 easy to understand images from ARASAAC (http://arasaac.org). Used by Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP), this app is suitable for Asperger syndrome, ASD, aphasia, speech apraxia, articulation/phonological disorder, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Motor Neuron Disease (MND), cerebral palsy, down syndrome.
