Independence, in definition, means not subject to control by others. Every 15th August, we celebrate our Independence from the British, but what about the independence of the queer community? Independence from stigma, hatred, negative portrayal and ill-practices that are commonly found to be in effect against the community.

Humans are born different and this difference can be seen in our sexual orientations as well. Just like one size can not fit us all, how can we expect that one sexual orientation can fit an entire community? 

LGBTQIA+ is a representation of different sexualities, sexes and genders that do not conform with the ‘heterosexual’ ideology and in order to support the Pride in this new-age Independent India, we should know all about it.

Homophobia can be understood as the contempt, hatred and prejudice that this community faces on an everyday basis and MHT India aims to educate our community about the ill-effects of this thought line and in turn, inculcate some acceptance amongst the people with the hope, that in the new-age independent India, we will have an all-accepting society. 

It is only when we as a community take a stand, against ill-practices that stem from homophobia; for example, Conversion Therapy, will we be able to live with pride and make this space, a safe environment for all homo sapiens.
