Depression.

Depression is a type of mood disorder which, according to a WHO Report, affects roughly 264 million people around the globe. Research has shown that women are twice as likely to experience depression than men and the intensity of this disorder can vary from individual to individual. It usually starts slowly and gradually starts affecting the individual’s functionality to the extent, that it becomes difficult to get out of bed. At it’s worst, depression can lead to suicide. Want to know an astonishing statistics? Nearly 800000 people commit suicide every year and approximately 20% of these are individuals with untreated depressive symptoms.

What does Depression feel like?

The common symptoms of depression are loss of interest in day-to-day activities, persistent sadness or depressed mood, changes in sleep, changes in appetite and/or weight and low energy. For diagnosing depression, these symptoms should be persistent for a minimum of 2 weeks. Social interactions, psychological perceptions and biological structure, all three can together have a role to play, when it comes to these depressive symptoms. Depending on the severity of these symptoms, depression can be divided into the mild, moderate and severe category.
